D. Brent Portell, CLU, ChFC

Principal

Brent is the founder and managing principal of DBP Wealth Advisory Group LLC. He is a Highland native and has worked in the financial planning industry for more than 30 years.

He views his role in the planning process as, most importantly, a listener first. Understanding his client’s family, business and ultimate goals is critical. That process then transitions to coaching and educating such that the client is able to make informed decisions. Oftentimes a team approach with the client’s attorneys, accountants and other advisors is implemented; and welcome. Brent has witnessed first-hand the evolution and consequences of his counsel as his clients have moved through the various financial stages over their lifetimes.

Brent holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Eastern Illinois University and is a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). He is a Registered Representative and Investment Advisor Representative and offers securities through M Holdings Securities Inc. He belongs to the American Society of Chartered Life Underwriters and Chartered Financial Consultants and is a member of FINSECA.  He is active in the Highland Optimist Club and a member of St Paul Church. Brent and his wife Kathy reside in rural Highland and have four children, Brock (a member of the DBP Wealth Advisory Group LLC team), Brode, Rece Derian and Brylee.
